The banks of the Isère
A long landscaped path follows the Isère for several kilometres, from the centre to the edge of the Grésivaudan. People run, cycle and settle down with a book. From the quays, the view of the Bastille and its cable car never looks quite the same twice. A bike date along the water is a lovely way to see whether you keep the same pace.
Paul-Mistral Park and the Perret Tower
A legacy of the 1925 International Exhibition of Hydroelectric Power, Paul-Mistral Park is the great green lung of the city centre. Lawns, pools and play areas keep it alive year-round. At its heart, the Perret Tower, the first concrete skyscraper in Europe, watches over walkers. A picnic on the grass always carries a small holiday flavour.
Towards the Drac and Île-Verte
To the west, the banks of the Drac and the parks of nearby towns open onto wilder scenery, with the Vercors looming beyond. To the north, the Île-Verte district, caught between the Isère and an old branch, keeps a gentle residential feel. On Lyad, Grenoble members share their favourite breathing spots; it is up to you to find someone to go against the current with.
